Vir-Clar Farm Power – Fond du Lac, WI

Vir Clar Farms has embraced digester technology, and found that a system does a lot more than simply create energy. It creates a good overall image of dairy farming, plus it adds to the efficiency of the overall dairy operation, as manure management costs are drastically reduced in terms of storage (less acreage allocated for manure pits), and fuel required for transport of liquid manure. In addition, it opens up potential new product sales like biosolids for mulch and bedding. Learn more by downloading the Vir Clar Farm Overview PDF or clicking the YouTube link:

Manure Digester System – The Vir-Clar Digester II system will be designed to expand the current digester system for a 1,400 head dairy operation near Fond du Lac, WI. The system will utilize one new reinforced concrete vessels approximately 80 feet in diameter and 20 feet tall. The system will use a portion of the manure from the dairy but rely on offsite substrate additions. Items for this project include equipment for substrate additions to the digester, biogas conditioning and transfer system, two CAT3412 genset, radiators, heat exchangers, ventilation fans, electrical utility synchronization (switch gear) and monitoring software. A bio-fiber recovery system will be installed with the recovered material used for bedding. The system will have an additional power generation capacity of approximately 350 kWh for a total of 750 kWh.
